David Spade became a household favorite during his five-year stint as a cast member on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” delivering snappy one-liners during his “Hollywood Minute” and “Weekend Update” segments. In 1999, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his memorable role as Dennis Finch, the wise-cracking, power-hungry assistant on “Just Shoot Me” – he was subsequently nominated for an American Comedy Award in 1999 and a Golden Globe in 2000 for his work on the popular sitcom. Spade continued to enjoy a prosperous career in television, starring in the CBS comedy “Rules of Engagement” from 2007 to 2013 and Comedy Central’s “The Showbiz Show” from 2005 to 2007. Although he dominated the small screen, Spade also sports an impressive list of film credits.
Spade co-starred in “Tommy Boy” (1995) and “Black Sheep” (1996) alongside fellow “Saturday Night Live” cast member Chris Farley, the former for which the pair won a 1996 MTV Movie Award for “Best On-Screen Duo.” Other popular film credits include “The Benchwarmers,” “Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star,” and “Grown Ups.”
The multifaceted entertainer has a catalog of well-received standup comedy specials, including his 2014 Comedy Central special “David Spade: My Fake Problems.” In 2020, Spade starred in the Netflix original comedy “The Wrong Missy,” which rose to the number one movie on Netflix following its release. Paying homage to his “Saturday Night Live” roots, Spade hosted his own late-night series “Lights Out with David Spade” on Comedy Central, which featured his jeering takes on pop culture news.
