Reno’s premier gaming-resort honors healthcare workers, first responders and teachers with “Grand Hero” nomination program
RENO, Nev. (Aug. 1, 2022) – Jessica Meyer, Medford, Ore., will celebrate with her husband with a weekend getaway to Grand Sierra Resort and Casino (GSR). The medical assistant is the property’s latest “Grand Hero.”
Nominated by her co-worker, Sita Taibi, Meyer started as a front desk assistant at Valley Family Practice. She wanted more responsibility and a bigger challenge, so she quickly worked her way up to medical assistant within a few months thanks to her hard work and dedication. During the pandemic, she worked through disgruntled patients and other challenges while inspiring the office through her positivity and leadership. Her colleagues consider her the backbone of the office; she’ll cover any shift or offer her lunch to anyone that needs it all with a smile. Her kindness and generosity extend outside of the office, too. Last year, Meyer took it upon herself to become a surrogate to help a desperate family.
Meyer received the news over a Zoom call and was surprised before becoming emotional when she realized what being a “Grand Hero” meant with her collegue stepping in.
“Wow,” said Meyer. “Thank you!” Jumping in, Taibi said, “She’s our assistant manager, and she takes everything with a smile. I don’t know how she does it. She does everything for us.”
Meyer will be treated to a two-night stay at GSR, $200 in dining credits and a $200 spa gift card.
The “Grand Hero” initiative was introduced in March 2021. Community members are asked to nominate deserving healthcare workers, first responders, teachers and other everyday heroes to receive a relaxing resort vacation as an expression of thanks for their efforts in supporting the local community throughout the past year.
Community members can nominate everyday heroes to GSR’s “Grand Hero” program by visiting grandsierraresort.com/gsr-cares. GSR will select a winner once a month and will reward the chosen hero with a complimentary two-night stay at northern Nevada’s premier resort destination, a food and beverage credit to use at the wide variety of restaurants featured throughout the casino-resort and a spa certificate for The Spa at Grand Sierra Resort.
