Emerging as a defining force of the hair metal boom, Tesla was formed in 1985 and included vocalist Jeff Keith, guitarists Frank Hannon and Tommy Skeoch, bassist Brian Wheat and drummer Troy Luccketta. Initially known as City Kidd, they underwent a pivotal transformation when their management suggested the name Tesla, paying homage to the enigmatic inventor Nikola Tesla. The band's debut album, “Mechanical Resonance,” dropped in 1986 and swiftly ascended the charts with its hit single “Modern Day Cowboy.” However, it was their 1989 release, “The Great Radio Controversy,” that catapulted Tesla to stardom. This album featured the chart-topping ballad “Love Song,” which resonated with audiences far beyond the hard rock sphere, becoming a pop Top Ten hit.

In a music scene marked by extravagance, Tesla remained true to their blue-collar roots, leading to the groundbreaking “Five Man Acoustical Jam” in 1990. Unveiling stripped-down, acoustic renditions of their hits, including a riveting cover of “Signs,” they demonstrated that rock could be both intimate and energetic, paving the way for MTV's “Unplugged” series. “Psychotic Supper” in 1991 continued their streak of success, with singles like “Edison's Medicine” and “What You Give.” Despite the changing musical landscape, Tesla persisted, and the follow-up album, “Bust a Nut” (1994), also earned respectable sales.

Following a breakup, the band found new life in 2000, staging a triumphant reunion tour and releasing the live album “Replugged Live” in 2001. Their resilience was further evident in “Forever More” (2008) and “Simplicity” (2014). In 2019, they returned to a major label with “Shock,” and their 2020 concert LP, “Five Man London Jam,” harked back to their acoustic roots. Tesla's enduring passion for music and unmistakable sound have made them an enduring force in the rock genre. Doors open at 7 p.m.
