RENO, Nev. (Oct. 13, 2023) – Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) has reaffirmed its dedication to the Northern Nevada community by gifting Vaughn Middle School with a state-of-the-art scoreboard valued at $10,000, enhancing the school's gymnasium for the benefit of local student-athletes. In addition to the new scoreboard, GSR awarded the school with an unrestricted donation of $15,000 on Thursday, Oct 12.
“We firmly believe that investing in the education and sports opportunities of our youth is an investment in the future of our community,” said Alexis Meruelo, GSR’s Chief Vision and Purpose Officer. “We are honored to support Vaughn Middle School and promote the growth and development of young minds in Northern Nevada.”
The check presentation and official unveiling of the new scoreboard took place during the Vaughn Middle School girls' home basketball game. Meruelo, GSR General Manager, Shannon Keel, and members fo the GSR Cares committee personally delivered the $15,000 donation to Vaughn Middle School Principal, Amanda Lobkowicz.
“Vaughn Middle School is so thankful for the continued support of GSR which has allowed us to increase opportunities, enrichment and incentives for our students,” said Lobkowicz. “Thanks to GSR, we are becoming very proud Eagles – proud of our new athletic uniforms and equipment, and proud of our academic growth. Students love the incentives they buy with GSR-sponsored Eagle Bucks, earned by demonstrating academic growth and good behavior. Thank you GSR and Meruelo family.”
