Founded in 1965, Los Tigres del Norte has since become one of the most recognized groups in the landscape of regional Mexican music – the group is renowned for breaking barriers and transforming the norteño genre into commercially viable pop music. The band of Mexican-American brothers is centered on lead vocalist and accordionist Jorge Hernández (the oldest of 11 children), who is joined by his brothers Hernán (bass, vocals), Eduardo (accordion, saxophone, bass, vocals) and Luis (bajo sexto, vocals). Over the course of its expansive career, Los Tigres del Norte has recorded more than 50 albums and is the only Mexican group to win six Grammy Awards and 12 Latin Grammy Awards. Additionally, the band has made 40 films alongside the acclaimed Almada brothers.
With lyrics that fluctuate between the romantic and the corrido, the band’s bold sound infuses the norteño tradition with boleros, cumbias, rock rhythms, waltzes and sound effects. Most recently, the band has explored a new genre called narcocorrido, which narrates the experience of members of drug gangs operating in Mexico. From ballads mourning unrequited love to to fast-paced singles revealing the realities of immigrant life, Los Tigres del Norte never fails to deliver lively performances that examine, critique and celebrate Mexican/American culture. Doors open at 7 p.m.
