Early Success

Born in 1970 Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri released his first album, Un Sol (under the Mexican branch of EMI Records), in 1981 when he was only 11 years old. Over the next ten years Luis Miguel released several albums, won awards, and participated in music festivals.

In 1988 he released his second album, Busca Una Mujer, and the single, La Incondicional became a top-ten hit throughout Latin America. Much of the singles success was due to the music video when Luis Miguel revealed his newly trimmed hairstyle, a departure from his signature long locks.

Career

Known as El Sol de Mexico, Luis Miguel’s career spans more than 30 years and much of Luis’ success he attributes to his father who was also his manager. Spending many hours analyzing every movie, recording, concert and performance by Elvis Presley, at the encouragement of his father, Luis was clearly inspired by the King of Rock-N-Roll for his musical prowess and showmanship.

He has won five Grammy® awards, four Latin Grammy® awards, and is an icon in Latin American music. He successfully performs a wide range of musical styles including pop, ballads, boleros and mariachi and he is known for his high-grossing live performances. Luis Miguel has performed more than 230 times to a sold-out crowd at the National Auditorium in Mexico City and is an annual headliner in Las Vegas at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. His last tour, the Luis Miguel Tour, he performed 223 shows in 22 countries over three-and-a-half years. To date it is the longest and most successful tour by any Latin American artist.

Solitude

While his personal life seems to be off limits to the media, he is no stranger to the spotlight. His father was Spanish singer, songwriter and guitarist Luis Gallego Sanchez (known as Luisito Rey) and his mother was Italian actress Marcela Basteri. He rarely grants interviews or attends award ceremonies saying, “I maintain my sanity by keeping my distance.” Even though he prefers solitude for his personal life, his professional one is wildly successful and one show you don’t want to miss.
