Reno Air Races
Fast Flying Planes
The Reno National Championship Air Races is the most unique air racing event in the world. This event combines the world’s fastest motorsport with skilled and spectacular military and civilian air entertainment.
Nearly 50 years ago Reno local, Bill Stead, organized an air race just north of Reno in the desert (now the Stead Airport) fashioned after the Cleveland Air races from the 1920s, 30s and 40s.
Every September, aviation enthusiasts from around the world and of all ages flock to the airport in Stead to marvel at the acrobatic maneuvers and fast flying planes. The Reno National Championship Air Races features six racing classes, a large display of static aircraft and several military and civil flight demonstrations.
